Redding is considered a mid-size city with equal parts activities and quiet reflection. Centrally located, it is situated only a couple hours south of Oregon and a couple hours north of Sacramento. You can find an abundance of natural areas to the east and west of Redding. It is home of the Sundial Bridge and Turtle Bay Exploration Park. Tid Bit:
In 1844, the Mexican government granted the land to a pioneer named Pierson Reading. The Southern Pacific Railroad later built a rail line going through the area. Oddly enough, Redding was not named after the pioneer Pierson Reading, but a railroad man and politician named Benjamin Redding. The City of Redding was formally incorporated in 1887.
