Yep it’s that time of the year! We all need a reminder for our home maintenance chores, and I have two of them for you today.
Fireplaces
Every year there are thousands of flue fires. To help prevent fire damage, you should have your fireplace and chimney inspected and swept once a year.
Call a chimney sweep company and make your appointment now. The professionals will inspect every part of the fireplace and chimney to make sure it is free of soot, creosote, and debris and that it is in excellent working order or if it requires any repairs.
All fire burning stoves need to be inspected once a year. That includes conventional brick-and-mortar, wood-burning fireplace, prefab unit, gas-burning system or freestanding stove or any stove that burns wood or pellets.
I came upon this interesting article about The Facts About Chimney Fires that you might want to read.
Smoke and CO2 Detectors
It’s that time of the year to replace the batteries in your smoke detector and your CO2 detector. Hit the “test button” if you have the long term batteries to make sure the alarm is functioning properly. Now would be a good time to vacuum the dust off the units and wipe them clean.
I hope this helps. Pick up your phone and make your appointment for your chimney inspection and don’t forget to check those smoke and CO2 alarms.
Now that those home maintenance chores are done it’s time to decorate that fireplace. Check out our Shopping Page for some great stores that offer really cute home decor.
