This little city has a total area of just over 10 square miles. Located approximately 10 miles north of Redding. The city is the closest town to Shasta Dam. It is also the home of the communities, Summit City, Project City, Pine Grove and Toyon. Many locals enjoy swimming, fishing and boating at Lake Shasta.

The City of Shasta Lake was formally known as Central Valley. The workers of Shasta Dam had built the communities of the now Shasta Lake City as the land was cheap and they needed low cost homes while they were working on the dam.
